John Gau CBE

A British producer of current affairs and documentary programming, including 24 Hours (1965-1969) and Panorama (1969-1973). John Gau had previously been editor of Nationwide (1975-1978) and would later become head of the BBC’s current affairs group (1978-1981). He set up John Gau Productions in 1981, producing such independent output as The Front Line (1983), Soldiers (1985), 90 Degrees South (1987), Reaching for the Skies (1988), The Power and the Glory (1991) and Plane Crazy (1997). He was appointed a CBE in 1989, during his tenure as director of programmes at British Satellite Broadcasting (1988-1990). He also served as chair of the Independent Programme Producers Association (1983-1986) and the Royal Television Society (1987-1991) and was a director of Channel 4 (1984-1988).
